Waffle

Brussels waffle

A waffle is a batter-based cake or dough-based bread[citation needed] cooked in a waffle iron patterned to give a distinctive and characteristic shape. There are dozens of European regional variations based on the type and shape of the iron and the recipe used. In the Americas, the traditional types as well as frozen waffles, such as the Eggo, are popular.

How to Plan a Waffle Buffet

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Plan for your crowd. Once you know how many people will attend, it’s time to decide how many waffles to make. Since batter is inexpensive, it’s better to overshoot when estimating. A good rule of thumb is to make two waffles (the complete surface of a standard waffle maker equaling one waffle) for each person you expect. That takes into account the dainty appetites that will only eat half a portion and the hearty appetites that will eat 3.
Step2
Consider the toppings. Most people opt for butter and syrup when they make waffles at home, but why not offer toppings that will allow your guests to really indulge themselves? In addition to the usual butter and maple syrup, offer flavored syrups, powdered sugar, honey, stewed fruit, and whipped cream.
Step3
Prepare waffles for the group. About 30 minutes before your guests arrive, heat your oven to about 300 degrees F, and start pouring batter into your waffle maker. As the waffles come off the press, put them into your warm oven or a warming drawer to keep them hot.
Step4
Set up the buffet. In a central location that will allow for easy movement, gather all of the toppings, along with plates, forks, knives, and napkins. At the last minute, pull the first round of waffles out of the oven, and place them with the rest of the buffet. When people are starting to finish their first waffle, replenish the waffle stack.
